The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB)
at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will award National Research
Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships (F32) to
promising applicants with the potential to become productive,
independent investigators in fields related to the mission of the
NIBIB. To facilitate these awards, the NIBIB will participate in NIH
program announcement (PA) PA-00-104 titled "National Research Service
Awards for Individual Postdoctoral Fellows (F32)" (released June 1,
2000). This PA provides specifications for the NIH F32 program
including eligibility requirements, application procedures, and review
criteria. The purpose of the NRSA program is to ensure that a diverse
and highly-trained workforce is available to assume leadership roles in
the national biomedical research agenda.

Consistent with the mission of the Institute, the NIBIB will make F32
awards in areas associated with bioengineering, biomedical imaging, and
multi-disciplinary research aimed at addressing problems in biology and
medicine. Before a NRSA postdoctoral fellowship can be activated, an
individual must have received a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D.,
Sc.D., etc.) from an accredited institution.

Dates for applications to be received at the NIH in response to this
notice are April 5, August 5, and December 5 annually.

Applications will be reviewed by the Center for Scientific Review with
regard to NIH criteria for F32 fellowship awards.
