NIBIB NATIONAL RESEARCH SERVICE AWARDS FOR INDIVIDUAL POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS (F32) RELEASE DATE: April 3, 2002 NOTICE: NOT-EB-02-001 National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (http://www.nibib.nih.gov/) The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will award National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships (F32) to promising applicants with the potential to become productive, independent investigators in fields related to the mission of the NIBIB. To facilitate these awards, the NIBIB will participate in NIH program announcement (PA) PA-00-104 titled "National Research Service Awards for Individual Postdoctoral Fellows (F32)" (released June 1, 2000). This PA provides specifications for the NIH F32 program including eligibility requirements, application procedures, and review criteria. The purpose of the NRSA program is to ensure that a diverse and highly-trained workforce is available to assume leadership roles in the national biomedical research agenda. Consistent with the mission of the Institute, the NIBIB will make F32 awards in areas associated with bioengineering, biomedical imaging, and multi-disciplinary research aimed at addressing problems in biology and medicine. Before a NRSA postdoctoral fellowship can be activated, an individual must have received a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., Sc.D., etc.) from an accredited institution. Dates for applications to be received at the NIH in response to this notice are April 5, August 5, and December 5 annually. Applications will be reviewed by the Center for Scientific Review with regard to NIH criteria for F32 fellowship awards. Program inquiries concerning this notice can be directed to: Dr. Richard E.
