The purpose of this notice is to clarify the research topics that are responsive to PA-04-137 Exploratory Grant Program in Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism. All research topics should be within the mission of NIDDK. In regard to research on diabetic complications, this program announcement invites applications for research on diabetic complications that are not specific to a single organ system. For example, research on diabetic cardiomyopathy or coronary artery disease should be directed to NHLBI; research on diabetic retinopathy should be directed to NEI. For research on diabetic nephropathy, investigators may also consult PA-05-103: Pilot and Feasibility Program Related to the Kidney http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-05-103.html, and for diabetic uropathy PA-04-146: Pilot and Feasibility Program In Urology http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-04-146.html. Investigators are encouraged to contact program staff in the relevant institute for further info rmation, because the R21 mechanism is not available in all NIH institutes.
