GASTROENTEROLOGY FELLOWSHIP AND CONSULTATIONS: RFP AVAILABLE Release Date: March 29, 2001 NOTICE: NOT-DK-01-011 National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has a requirement for Gastroenterology Fellowship and Consultations which include the following: 1) to provide second or third year fellows in an approved gastrointestinal fellowship training program on a daily basis (rotation), seven days per week on a 24-hour per day basis to see patients at the NIH requiring consultations for gastrointestinal diseases within 30 minutes of the request; to discuss these cases with the supervising physician; and to perform gastrointestinal procedures required; 2) to provide a board-certified gastroenterologist who is participating in the same gastrointestinal fellowship training program, on the same basis, well-trained in all endoscopy procedures (including endoscopic ultrasound, biliary stenting, ERCP, UGI and lower GI endoscopy, manometry and laparoscopy) to supervise the second or third year GI fellows and all GI procedures; 3) to provide first year training for two fellows in GI training per year as part of a joint NIH Gastroenterology training program including providing continuity clinics required for board-certification which are accessible within 30 minutes of NIH, and 4) to provide continuity for the ongoing clinical research protocols involving endoscopic procedures at NIH by continuing to provide the same gastroenterologist throughout the term of the contract. In addition to handling routine GI consultant services, the second or third year fellow and their supervising gastroenterologist will take care of GI emergencies (response to be within one-half hour). The second or third year and supervising gastroenterologist will provide the above services for one year from date of award with four one-year option periods. Contractors must be located with one-half hour of the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland and be able to provide all requirements listed above within a one-half hour time. The Request for Proposals, RFP NIH-NIDDK- 01-05 will be issued on or about April 9, 2001 and proposals are due by 3:00 p.m., May 11, 2001.
