This Notice regarding the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) is intended to provide additional information for potential applicants on the specific purpose of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) K08 award. The original Program Announcement (PA 00-003) was released on October 8, 1999, and can be found at https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-00-003.html. This Notice supersedes the NIDCR language included in the Inquiries section of that PA.

National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) offers the K08 mechanism to encourage dentists or other clinicians to pursue a career in oral health research. The prospective candidate must have a D.D.S./D.M.D., M.D. or other clinical doctoral degree. Priority will be given to dentists who wish to pursue a program that includes didactic and supervised basic or behavioral science research experiences that result in the Ph.D. degree. Health professionals with a doctoral degree may use the award for a postdoctoral experience. The NIDCR will not provide support for clinical specialty training under this program.
