Purpose

This notice is to alert the extramural community that, as of the September 2021 National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) Council round, NIDCD will no longer apply administrative reductions to modular investigator-initiated R01 grants. This specifically applies to applications submitted under the Funding Opportunity Announcements, PA-20-185, “NIH Research Project Grant (Parent R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)” and PA-20-183, “Research Project Grant (Parent R01 Clinical Trial Required),” and their subsequent reissues.

However, with the exception of applications with Early Stage Investigators as the Principal Investigator(s), investigator-initiated non-modular R01 awards will continue to receive a 15% administrative reduction applied to IRG and NIDCD Council budget recommendations (see NIDCD Funding Guidelines). Investigators and recipient organizations should carefully consider this NIH guidance when developing budgets for R01 submissions (see Develop Your Budget).
