Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform applicants that the NIDCD Small Grant Program (R03) has been replaced by the “NIDCD Early Career Research (ECR) Award (R21)”.

The new “NIDCD Early Career Research (ECR) Award (R21)” Funding Opportunity Announcement(FOA) is being released simultaneously with this Notice.

The purpose of the new “NIDCD Early Career Research (ECR) Award (R21)" is identical to the now defunct NIDCD Small Grant Program(R03). Please read the new FOA carefully and in its entirety since there have been modifications, e.g. regarding PD/PI effort.

The first application due date for the NIDCD ECR Award program is February 26, 2016. NIDCD is no longer accepting applications submitted to the PAR-13-057 "NIDCD Small Grant Program (R03)".

Individuals intending to submit a new or resubmission NIDCD R03 application must now submit such applications as a NEW application in response to the “NIDCD Early Career Research (ECR) Award (R21)” FOA.

NIDCD Small Grant Program (R03) applications submitted in response to PAR 13-057 with the due date October 28, 2015 will not be affected by these changes and will be reviewed as scheduled. However, any unsuccessful R03 application must be submitted as a New Application in response to the “NIDCD Early Career Research (ECR) Award (R21)”. See: NOT-OD-15-059 "Reminders Related to the NIH/AHRQ Policy for Application Submission".
