This Notice is to announce the publication of a Research Opportunity Announcement (ROA) for Phase II of the Native Collective Research Effort to Enhance Wellness (N CREW) Program: Addressing Overdose, Substance Use, Mental Health, and Pain - Advancing Native Research Projects. This program is funded by the NIH HEAL Initiative®. Applications are due July 31, 2026.
- ROA OTA-26-001 solicits applications from Tribes and Native Serving Organizations (T/NSOs) to conduct community-led research projects. The research must explicitly include a focus on overdose, substance use (including opioids or stimulants), or pain. Projects may also include related factors such as mental health or wellness, among others, to support positive health outcomes in Native communities.

- ROA OTA-26-002 solicits applications from T/NSOs and Ally Organizations to serve as Native Research Resource Partners (NRRPs) to T/NSOs funded under ROA OTA-26-001. NRRP Key functions include, but are not limited to, N CREW Network coordination and management; training and technical assistance; supporting N CREW data initiatives; collaboration across the N CREW Network, and evaluation.
NIH will hold a series of informational webinars. Webinar details, including dates and registration links, will be posted online on the N CREW Program website. Potential applicants will be encouraged to email questions to [email protected]. The N CREW Program website will be routinely updated with new Questions and Answers and Technical Assistance information.
