The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in conjunction with the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), intends to publish a Request for Applications (RFA) to develop and test the effectiveness of comprehensive models of care that integrate drug screening, brief intervention, and referral to specialized treatment (SBIRT) for individuals entering into general medical care settings. Specifically NIDA seeks randomized clinical trials and other rigorous studies that will improve our understanding of SBIRT models as they apply to persons with drug abuse and addiction   The RFA is expected to be published in November 2007 with an expected receipt date in March 2008.
