The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) intends to publish a Request for Applications (RFA) in the fall of 2007, soliciting R01 applications for research proposals that link drug use and abuse, HIV/AIDS, epidemiology, prevention and/or treatment within the criminal justice system. Proposals should consist of intervention research projects or research that can clearly lead to effective new interventions. The scope of criminal justice settings includes all phases of incarceration (pre- and post incarceration, and during incarceration) in jails, prisons, and juvenile justice settings, as well as community settings and other adjudicated statuses, including drug court supervision, probation, and parole. Youth and adult offenders, their drug use and sexual partners and other relevant members of their social networks are populations of interest. All types of substance use should be considered, including injection and non-injection drug use. Consideration of co-morbid conditions such as psychiatric disorder is encouraged.
