MEDICATION DISCOVERY USING RAT MODELS OF RELAPSE TO DRUG SELF-ADMINISTRATION RELEASE DATE: May 14, 2004 NOTICE: NOT-DA-04-027 RFP AVAILABLE: N01DA-4-8848 National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) (http://www.nida.nih.gov/) The National Institute on Drug Abuse, plans to solicit proposals from qualified organizations having in-house capability to develop methodologies and to perform in vivo rodent behavioral pharmacology studies of potential pharmacotherapies for cocaine dependence, as well as potential pharmacotherapies for other drug dependence disorders, using drug self-administration reinstatement models. The Contractor will be blinded to the identity of proprietary test compounds, the compounds will be evaluated in established assays, and the resulting data will be utilized by the NIDA Division of Treatment Research and Development. In order to handle substances under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, it is mandatory that offerors possess a DEA Research Registration for Schedules II to V and demonstrate the capability to obtain a DEA registration for Schedule I controlled substances. All offerors must be in compliance with the NIH guidelines on the care and use of laboratory animals. NIDA expects to award a 5- year contract with options for additional quantities. NIDA anticipates that this solicitation will result in the award of multiple contracts. RFP No. N01DA-4-8848 is available electronically.
