NOTICE REGARDING ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPLEMENTS TO STUDY ISSUES RELATED TO THE TRANSITION FROM DRUG USE TO ADDICTION Release Date: October 31, 2000 NOTICE: DA-01-005 National Institute on Drug Abuse http://www.nida.nih.gov PURPOSE The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) announces the availability of funds for administrative supplements to existing NIDA-supported research project grants (R01) and exploratory/developmental grants (R21) to study issues related to the transition from illicit drug use to addiction. This topic has been identified by the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse as a major area of research need, requiring new, intensive, and focused attention. Information about the administrative supplements can be found at http://www.nida.nih.gov/funding/addictiongrant.html. NIDA also intends to solicit new research proposals targeting transition issues during FY 2001. Together the supplement program and other initiatives will rapidly develop a research focus on this important issue.
