The purpose of this notice is to provide clarification on five items in RFA-CE-08-001:

Applicants are required to use the PHS 398 research plan component of SF 424 (R&R) to incorporate the five research plan content areas (purpose, program participants, interventions, methods, collaborative efforts) described in the FOA. Please ensure that all five FOA content areas are incorporated as appropriate into at least one field of PHS 398. These content areas should be incorporated as part of, rather than instead of, the field areas listed for the research plan in PHS 398.

For example:

  1. PHS 398 research plan field Specific Aims can include Purpose of the Proposed Research as described in the FOA.
  2. PHS 398 research plan fields Background and Significance and/or Research Design and Methods can include Program Participants as described in the FOA.
  3. PHS 398 research plan field Research Design and Methods can include Intervention as described in the FOA.
  4. PHS 398 research plan field Research Design and Methods can include Methods as described in the FOA.
  5. PHS 398 research plan fields Background and Significance and/or Preliminary Studies can include Collaborative Efforts as described in the FOA.
