The major goal of the Program is to foster interdisciplinary research to promote the scientific study of botanicals, particularly those available as dietary supplements. Currently funded Centers and new applicants will be invited to submit applications. Presently, six centers are supported as P50s or P01s. In this future competition, it is likely that the program will be maintained at its current size pending availability of funds and receipt of applications of high scientific merit. The exact focus of the RFA and mechanisms of support for the centers have not been determined. The anticipated release date for the RFA is January 2004, with applications due in June 2004. It is anticipated that funds will be awarded early in fiscal year 2005. The announcement of this RFA will be published in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts.
