Effective with the February 12, 2007, application due date, the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases is modifying its policies on required level of effort and salary for Career Development Awards for Physicians: Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (K08), http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-06-512.html, and Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23), http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-05-143.html, as follows. The full-time professional effort to the career development and research objectives of the application for physician surgeons whose research interests are within the mission interests of the NIAMS (http://www.niams.nih.gov/an/index.htm) will be reduced from 75% to 50%. Salary will be reduced from up to $75,000 to up to $50,000 per year. There will be no changes in fringe benefits or in research supplies.
