Notice Number: NOT-AI-09-032

Key Dates
Release Date: April 24, 2009

Issued by
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), (http://www.niaid.nih.gov)

Purpose

To inform the research community that NIAID now intends to solicit collaborative research partnerships as research project grants (R01, SBIR) instead of as cooperative agreements (U01).

Policy Statement

NIAID will solicit collaborative research partnerships (including those known as Biodefense Cooperative Research Partnerships ) through Requests for Applications that invite applications for research project grants such as R01 and SBIR grants. Nevertheless, under certain circumstances, when it is in the best interest of NIAID and the awardee, for example, research that includes aerosol challenge studies using a select agent, NIAID and the applicant institution may, post-peer review, negotiate terms and conditions of award of a cooperative agreement.

This policy is effective with the publication of this notice.
