Description

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases intends to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to support innovative exploratory and developmental investigations to determine the mechanisms underlying food allergy, focusing on ex vivo studies with human specimens, and on studies with current or new animal models of human food allergy. This new FOA is expected to be published in June 2007. Research areas may include: biomarkers of and genetic components of food allergy and severe food allergy; food allergen epitopes and novel food allergens; and biomarkers, genetics and mechanistic studies in animal models. Since a key goal of this FOA is to stimulate new ideas in food allergy research, investigators who are established in fields other than food allergy research are encouraged to apply, and preference will be given to investigators newly entering the field of food allergy research. This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant (R21) award mechanism
