National Institute on Aging (NIA) (http://www.nia.nih.gov)

The NIA is announcing a competition limited to research training on aging at CIHR-supported Canadian research institutions in Canada. All applicants must refer to and select one of the CIHR-supported research-training institutions listed in PA-06-469 when applying for the F32 award. The Postdoctoral Training in Research on Aging in Canada program announcement has two primary aims:

  1. To offer training in research on aging that exposes developing American postdoctoral investigators to diverse combinations of expertise and resources singularly available in Canada through the Canadian Institutes of Health-Institute on Aging (CIHR-IA), combinations that also take into account the unique cultural and ethnic composition of Canada and its aging population.
  2. In addition, NIH-NIA publishes this initiative in order to provide emerging American postdoctoral investigators with training in research on aging at selected Canadian research institutions and to broaden cooperation between the NIH-NIA and CIHR-IA.  American postdoctoral research fellows will train with CIHR-IA-designated Teams in Aging, which are described in a brochure entitled Enhancing Aging Research Capacity in Canada, The brochure is available at http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/25208.html.   Other potential mentors/supervisors who hold CIHR funding can be identified through the CIHR Search Database at: http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/826.html. The content and scope of CIHR-IA’s research mission is described at: http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/26838.html.

NIA remains committed to supporting postdoctoral research training in institutions throughout the United States and, where appropriate, in other international settings. Applicants interested in these broader postdoctoral training opportunities should consult the program announcement for the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSA) for Individual Postdoctoral Fellows (F32).
