Issued by

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

Purpose

This notice informs applicants of a change to NOT-AA-20-018 "Notice of Special Interest: Secondary Analyses of Existing Alcohol Research Data". The following sections have been modified to add additional information (shown in italics) to encourage utilization of the NIH-sponsored All of Us data to conduct secondary analyses with the goal laid out in NOT-AA-20-018.

Background

The All of Us Research Program led by NIH aims to build a diverse, longitudinal cohort of one million people in the United States to advance precision medicine and improve health outcomes. To date, the All of Us has enrolled more than 350,000 participants with about 50% from racial and ethnic minority populations. Data collected include the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption (AUDIT-C) questions, other lifestyle questions, social determinants of health, COVID-19 experience and vaccine-related questions, physical measurements, genomics, and electronic health records. Researchers are encouraged to utilize these individual-level data sets through the All of Us Research Hub.

Scope/Research Goals

  • Examine differences in alcohol consumption alone or in combination with other substance use, risk and protective factors, comorbid psychiatric and/or chronic physical conditions in alcohol users that may contribute to poor health outcomes in certain NIH-designated U.S. health disparity populations.
