Purpose

This Notice informs potential applicants that the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is participating, effective immediately, in PAR-19-064, "Mechanism for Time-Sensitive Drug Abuse Research (R21 Clinical Trial Optional)".

The following changes are made to PAR-19-064 (shown in italics) to reflect NIAAA's participation in this FOA.

Part 2. Section I. Funding Opportunity Description

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

NIAAA participation in this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will support pilot, feasibility, exploratory, or developmental research in public health priority areas in substance use epidemiology, prevention, and health services, including but not necessarily limited to:

  1. time-sensitive research opportunities to study the effects of changes in alcohol-related policies, including effects on combined use of alcohol and other substances;
  2. time-sensitive research opportunities to study changes in factors affecting access, delivery, or financing of health care services related to alcohol outcomes;
  3. time-sensitive research opportunities to study alcohol-related effects associated with sudden and severe events, such as natural disasters, acts of war, or epidemics; and
  4. partnerships between researchers and state or local organizations to support time-sensitive research opportunities for evaluation of alcohol-related consequences of new policies, programs, or practices.

To be supported under this PAR, applicants must demonstrate that the proposed study could not be conducted under standard review and award timelines.
