Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform potential applicants that the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) will participate, effective immediately, in the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) PAR-19-246 " Providing Research Education Experiences to Enhance Diversity in the Next Generation of Substance Abuse and Addiction Scientists (R25 - Clinical Trials Not Allowed) .

Note: NIAAA will only support applications with a budget limit of $250,000 direct costs per year.

The following sections of PAR-19-246 have been updated have been modified (shown in italics) to reflect the participation of NIAAA in this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA).

For this FOA, NIAAA's interest includes:

'NIAAA supports research on alcohol use in several scientific areas including epidemiology and prevention, basic and clinical studies to identify mechanisms of organ and tissue damage and effects on brain systems and behavior, as well as research on behavioral and pharmacological approaches to treating alcohol-related problems and promoting recovery from alcohol use disorder. NIAAA is particularly interested in R25 applications that provide scientific and career development mentoring activities for trainees and education and resources to develop and train the mentoring faculty.
