The table below shows Research Project Success Rates by NIH Institute for 2007.

Success rates indicate the percentage of reviewed (competing) Research Project Grant applications that receive funding. This is computed on a fiscal year basis. Dividing the number of competing applications funded by the total number of competing applications reviewed determines success rates. Applications that have one or more amendments in the same fiscal year are only counted once. The total cost is the sum of the direct and indirect costs for each fiscal year, and not for the life of the project.

¹ For NCMHD, the Success Rate for applicable fiscal yearrs are considered not applicable (NA) because of joint funding by other Institutes & Centers.

² Beginning in FY 2007, National Library of Medicine (NLM) dollars are separately distinguished

³ Beginning in 2007, the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Cancer Control dollars are included in the Research Projects Grants (RPG) portion of Success Rate table. Included in NCI's RPG total are 49 Applications in success rate base, 18 obligated applications and $5,479,917 related to cancer control records.
