November 23, 2009

If a submission date falls on a weekend, it is extended to the following Monday. SBIR/STTR Programs Extended Through January 31, 2010

November 11, 2009

The House and Senate have not yet completed the SBIR and STTR reauthorizations so the programs have again been extended “as is” for an additional three months through January 31, 2010. This extension affects ten of the eleven agencies (including NIH) participating in SBIR. DoD’s programs were previously extended through September 30, 2010, as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010.

Congress passes temporary extension for SBA programs, including SBIR/STTR

September 29, 2009

Note: Applicants are encouraged to apply for current funding opportunity announcements available at NIH. After, October 31, 2009, review and funding will be dependent on reauthorization or another extension of the SBIR/STTR programs. However, NIH does not expect any disruption to its regular operations (e.g., review, award timelines). Please be assured that any additional guidance will be provided as NIH receives further information.

On September 25th, Congress passed H.R. 3614, a measure that authorizes the Small Business Administration (SBA) programs through October 31, 2009, providing yet another stopgap extension for the SBIR/STTR programs. Like SBIR/STTR, many SBA programs have been operating under a series of short-term extensions. Although the House and Senate small business committees have been trying to negotiate an SBIR/STTR reauthorization, they have been unable to agree on specific provisions.
